Green light for Bank II City skyscraper

3 Feb 2018

Regal Property Group and funding partner Aprirose have been given the go ahead to boost the height of its new residential building, The Bank, by an additional two storeys, officially making it one of only two residential skyscrapers in Birmingham city centre.

The second building at The Bank, located between Broad Street and Brindleyplace, will now measure over 100 metres in height which is equivalent to around twelve double decker buses or twenty giraffes.

The second residential building will boast 33 storeys and 217 apartments (12 more than were originally planned). Construction is currently underway, with work expected to be complete and the first homeowners moving into the apartments in 2019.  In addition to the apartments, the building will also include a private gym for residents as well as ground floor restaurant space.

The first building, which is 21 storeys high, is due to be finished this summer and has already seen substantial sales, with more than 70% of the apartments reserved from plan.

Mark Holbeche, from Regal Property Group, said:

“This planning approval has helped cement The Bank’s position as one of the tallest buildings in Birmingham, officially categorising it as a residential skyscraper.

“This is an exciting time for Birmingham thanks to the high level of development happening around the city. Much of this is centred around the Broad Street area, which is fast becoming one of the top places for people to live in the city centre.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response we’ve seen to the first building at The Bank and are sure that this second building will be just as well received when its launched to the market later in the year.”

The Bank was designed by Birmingham based architects, Glancy Nicholls and construction is being completed by Wates Construction.
